We’ve shared with you our four favourite yoga hotels Asia – that won’t break the bank.
With a backdrop to match the meditative way of life, the Talalla Retreat is an affordable paradise in the still relatively unknown Sri Lanka. If you’re travelling with a pal or better half who perhaps isn’t as keen on the yoga side of things there are plenty of other activities to keep them occupied: excellent surf instructors will help you brave the warm waters, and accordingly amongst the yogis, you’ll find a fun crowd of wave-chasers in residence. The real draw here is wandering down to the beach after your morning class and often having the entire golden stretch all to yourself – this is a gorgeously secluded spot.
If you’re looking for a little more luxury, Cambodia’s Navutu Dreams Resort & Spa has a more upmarket yoga experience. Daily Ashtanga and Vinyasa classes are held out on the lawns, with regular weekly Iyengar and Hatha flow classes available as well. Excellent instruction in thoroughly tranquil settings makes this a yogi’s fantasy. The hotel is well prepped to treat your body like a temple, so once you’re done with the hard part, book yourself in at the spa for a life-changing facial.
If you’d rather get back to yoga’s roots, India has a wealth of Boutique Hotel options. We like the Raheem Residency, located in Kerala’s backwaters. Not only is there the option to take some excellent classes, you’ll be doing your body good in an architectural gem: originally built in 1886, the heritage building has been carefully restored, resplendent with original fittings and local antiques.
If you’re serious about your practice, and have an entire yoga crew then the Gajah Mina Beach Resort on Bali’s wild west coast is a memorable holiday. 12 villas stand sentry over a virtually undiscovered coast and the big waves and views are mesmerizing. For your yoga classes, rent out the gorgeously simple ‘wantilan’ a wall-less traditional Balinese structure that sits atop a cliff, looking out to the ocean.
